There were a total of 33 applicants and only 16 successfully completed the PT test. The PT test consists of maximum number of pushups in a two-minute time limit, a flex test, an agility run, and a mile-and-a-half run. The test and grading standards were established by the Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training (MBLEOST) and are required to be used by all Mississippi law enforcement training academies. Those who successfully completed the PT test were then given a standardized written test. Ten applicants passed the written test and will move onto the next phase of testing. The next phase consists of an oral interview board, psychological test, polygraph, and background check. Anyone interested in becoming a deputy should submit an application to the Sheriff's Department at 662-469-8027.
