[ARCHIVED] DAV Homestead Exemption Law Changes

Any Veteran having a service-connected total disability, who has been honorably discharged from military service shall be exempt from all Ad Valorem taxes on the assessed value of homestead property and to extend such exemption to un-remarried surviving spouses of such Veterans. Miss Code Ann., §27-33-75 and §27-33-67.

Beginning January 1, 2023 any Disabled Veteran who purchases a home in Mississippi can file for their homestead exemption within 30 calendar days of the closing date, but not later than December 31st of the year of purchase. If you forget to file within the 30 calendar days, make sure you file the following year during the homestead filing period, which is January 1 – April 1 of each year.  Vising the Tax Assessor’s webpage for more information on what to bring with you when you file your application.
